If your amp is having an intermittent problem that doesn’t occur every time you play it*:
*IMPORTANT! Before addressing any of these problems, make sure there is nothing connected to the amp other than the power cable and speaker cable. No guitar, pedals, cables, or anything inserted into the FX loop (if applicable).
Follow the intermittency checklist:
- The amp makes the noise/issue without anything plugged into it. *Disconnect reverb tank, footswitches, anything in the FX loop.
- There is nothing on top of the amp (cellphones, pedals, reverb units, power supplies, cables extending over the top of the amp).
- The amp makes the noise/issue when plugged into another speaker cabinet with a different speaker cable. It is okay to use a different/mismatched speaker cabinet for this test. It will not affect the results.
- You have followed the maintenance and troubleshooting procedures linked above.
- You have checked the amp with two known working guitar cables and preferably two different instruments.
- You have confirmed the issue occurs in different locations (rooms, different outlets, or venues) ruling out environmental noises like EMF and RF.
- You have sent audio/video of the noise to repairs as reference (Mandatory), AFTER following the preceding steps.
You must send the amp in with:
- Reverb tank and RCA cables (when applicable).
- Power cord you are currently using.
- All tubes that are in the amp when the issue is present.
